HMM in Pakistan
Adnan Talib (HMM Karachi)
Hello HMM or as we say “Assalam-o- Alikum” which means peace be upon you. We (Marketing & Sales/CSR team in Karachi, Pakistan) are pictured in the left of the photo below with Mr. Kiho Lee (Owner Representative Pakistan).
Pakistan - South Korea relations refers to the bilateral diplomatic relationship between Pakistan and South Korea, which since the 1980s, has continued to grow and strengthen in all fields especially in trade and investment.
It’s been almost a quarter century since HMM entered the Pakistan market 23 years ago and began operation under the agency, United Marine Agencies (Pvt) Ltd.
United Marine Agencies (Pvt) Ltd. commenced operations in 1988--not far back in time. Since Karachi is the business Hub of Pakistan, United is headquartered in Karachi, home to many government departments and international companies. The company also operates full-service branch offices in Lahore, Faisalabad, Sialkot and Multan with more than 300 staff members.
For its part, Pakistan is a country in southern Asia next to India, Afghanistan, Iran and China. It’s the sixths most populous country in the world with a population exceeding 197 million.
As one of the most developed Islamic nations adhering strongly to its principles, we practice all Islamic festivities to the fullest. This includes Ramadan which is a time of spiritual reflection, improvement, increased devotion and worship. It’s one of the five pillars of Islam, practiced in the 9th month of the Islamic Calendar, in which the Holy Quran was revealed to the Holy Prophet. Peace Be Upon Him. There are two Eid festivals in Pakistan, Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid Eid-ul-Adha, which are the two holiest celebrations on the Islamic calendar. Eid-ul-Fitr means ‘Feast of Breaking of the Fest’ while Eid-ul-Adha means ‘Feast of the Sacrifice’. Like many other aspects of Islam, both Eids are determined by the Islamic Lunar Calendar.
Pakistan depends heavily on the sea for its existence owing to its geography and geo-political location. More than 95% of the country’s trade is routed through the sea and as such there are four terminals in Karachi, including KICT, QICT, PICT and SAPT. Among these, only SAPT has a HMM CIX service calling with 16M Draft while the other terminals have a 13M Draft. HMM only serves the AT and UT (USWC) trade from Pakistan, and in the USWC, it is the leading carrier while in AT, HMM is in 4th position. HMM Pakistan’s weekly handling volumes are 600 export TEUs and 1,550 import TEUs.
I hope that through the acquisition of the most technologically advanced mega containerships, HMM can continue to strengthen and become a global top carrier to meet the expectation of customers.
